Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau:

First view of Mendenhall.

Paddling trip of a lifetime! Too bad it wasn't us in that kayak. If I had known we could do this...

After leaving the glacier, kayakers paddle their way through the ice.

Almost a walk-up-to-it glacier. Don't need to be on a ship or plane to see it clearly.

Juneau Arrival: The Rainy Capitol of Alaska

The only way to get into and out of Juneau is by sea or air. There are no roads into Juneau.

Waiting to go ashore for the next adventure.

Float Trip into an Eagle Preserve:

Ready for the float trip, praying it doesn't start storming and wondering what we got ourselves into this time. (I've never seen my sister so bundled up. She even wore her dorky hat.)

Think I'll stay warm? (Taken by Sara)

They fed us lunch before we embarked. Sara's bright smile ignores how cold it is. Believe me, it was COLD.

Actually, lunch tasted pretty good! (Taken by Sara)

Did I mention that this is a wild, beautiful land--an offshoot of the Chilcat River that runs through the middle of nowhere?

Eagles sitting on the mud flats waiting to spot a passing fish. Kinda hard to get good photos of eagles on a twisting, turning raft!

Eddie checking out the camera to make sure it's working. Or checking out something.

This is my raft taken by Sara.

Uh, oh...bumping boats!

Clearly, I'm having way too much fun! (Taken by Sara)

Can't seem to stop laughing! (Taken by Sara. Put that dang camera down, girl!)

Yet another shot of me having fun, this one by my sister, Kay. (In between hanging on for dear life, they still had time to take pictures!)

Mama eagle guarding her chick. 49 eagles spotted on this trip! That was the official count. Click on photo to view large.

Farewell to this cold, gorgeous place! I'd come back in a minute.

Arriving in Skagway:

Preparing to disembark at Skagway, we first had to get our pictures taken flanked by bears. (Any excuse for them to take your photo--and charge you for it. Yes, we fell for it and bought a few.)

Approaching Skagway, our first stop on the journey south to Vancouver through the Inside Passage.

Tugboats had to maneuver us into place next to a Holland-America cruise ship.

Mountains rim the harbor at Skagway.

Ship finally docked.

Formal Dinner:

We had two formal dinners aboard ship. This is from one of them. Little did we know 'til we dressed that we would be color coordinated. (Great minds think alike.)

Glaciers & Mountains Everywhere!

Photo ops in every direction.

Waterfalls,too!

A hole in the base of one glacier was gushing water.

When it got too crowded on deck, I retreated to my balcony on deck 11. Took this shot of the reflections in my balcony door showing me taking the photo with the glacier looming behind me. (Okay, so it's weird but I thought the reflection in the door was cool.)

People crowd the railing of the top deck of our 17 story ship to see this glacier. It's the Marguerite Glacier and it towered above the ship as you see here.

Glacier Bay Cruising: A Scenic Wonderland

Full steam ahead in Glacier Bay. Glacier coming up on the left.

Going deeper into the unknown...

The two photos above and below show another cruise ship--the only other one in the bay set against the backdrop of nature's grandeur. They demonstrate how insignificant we really are! (Click on them to see them in large format.)

Another ship in the front of the mountain scene. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself. But honestly, how often in your life do you get to take shots of scenery like THIS?)

View from the railing.

Well, it wasn't all just gawking at breathtaking scenery!
