Cookin' Up a Masterpiece (The Next Julia):

Next time you come to visit, you may be treated to a typical Thai dish called Padd Thai. (If you're lucky that is, and I can find all of the ingredients.)

This evening we had a Thai cooking class and we each had to make our own dinner. Most of the volunteers left tonight for the weekend so there were just four of us. Padd Thai is a noodle dish that I first tried and liked at a Thai restaurant on Maui. Ingredients can be adapted to your personal taste. Besides the rice noodles, bean sprouts, crushed peanuts and various spices, you can add tofu, chicken or shrimp.

I have ordered the dish several times here (because it's one of the few I know how to say) and also because I happen to like it--and it is "mai phed." Not spicy. Though you can get it spicy if you want it that way.

So--be prepared. My efforts turned out to be delicious and I am eager to try out my new culinary skill on the first available victim...uh, I mean guest.

Ingredients waiting to be whipped into magic!

You need a wok to make Padd Thai...Oh, and a stove of some sort.

Ta-daaaa!

Recipe. Doesn't tell you too much but I have it all in my head. Really.

  4. Wow, we are impressed. Your dish looks very tasty. Can't wait to test it out. And, you can skip the hot spices for us, too.

Re: the brave volunteer and the fried worm. We're wondering how one knows what a wormy taste is like. Sounds a little too earthy. Ick.
